The Cranbourne Stroke Support Group commenced in April, 2004
Initially the group had approximately 8-10 members, today
attendance is regularly 30 plus and growing.
The group is
made up of people who have suffered a stroke and their carers,
be they spouses or family. The development of great
friendships occur through the meetings and social events, which
is a very important aspect of recovery.
A number of social events are held throughout the year including,
Christmas Dinner, various bus excursions, Christmas in July and
other festivities. Through affiliation with the Stroke Association of
Victoria members are offered the opportunity to attend a Respite
Weekend held annually with other members from across Victoria.
Occasionally we have guest speakers who address the group.
Two Members of the group best describe the purpose of our support group by
sharing their own feelings about the group:
"Having been a Carer for the last eight years, nothing has made me happier
than to hear my wife, Raelene, say that joining the Cranbourne Stroke Group
was the best thing we ever did, as it has not only reduced the fear associated
with stroke, but has provided us with a great avenue to express our fears with
others and enjoy a better quality of life through a very friendly and supportive
group."
