SAV Inc. has a library that contains a number of books and videos that deal with many life problems encountered by carers and stroke survivors. The videos include details of stroke experiences encountered by other stroke survivors and how they managed. The videos are similar to some of the instructional tapes on how to manage daily tasks with the limited dexterity available after a stroke. You may wish also find to be very helpful. There are also interviews with survivors who recount how they have managed after a stroke.

These resources are only available to SAV members and only through the group leader of their stroke support group.

The following are books that have been written by SAV Members about their own personal experiences and how they, (and their carers) coped living with stroke.

'On The Outside Looking In', written by Lorraine Taylor

This book is an account written by Lorraine Taylor of her and her family's experience with her stroke and how they coped with the stroke in their lives.

Lorraine was a housewife and mother living in North Western Victoria when she had her stroke and she really didn't have access to the support facilities that are available today. Read how her family needed to adjust and how they returned back to 'normal' life.

Books Written by Helen McIntosh

These are three books that have been written by Helen McIntosh. Helen is a stroke survivor who had a stroke at age 43 years and who has put her experiences with stroke into a book entitled, 'An Interrupted Lunch - a story of stroke and rehabilitation', and a book of poems entitled 'Acceptance - left changed by stroke'. The book 'Grandpa's Had A Stroke' helps to explain the causes and effects of stroke in a way that children can understand without them being afraid of a grandparent, parent or relative that may have had their life changed by a stroke.
