COVID-19: Message from our Chairman

My dear members of SAV

With the closure of our Stroke Support Centres at Barwon, Bendigo and Newport, following the direction by our governments, we still seek to provide you with support, to protect the safety and welfare of all stroke survivors, carers, volunteers and staff.

The government is demanding that we socially distance and do not meet face to face. Our brilliant staff are continuing to work and find ways to engage with all of the members of each Centre electronically. They will be arranging where possible by video, cooking demonstrations, yoga classes and craft classes among many other activities. We welcome all SAV members and all stroke survivors to call any of our Centres on the numbers displayed below for access to these electronically delivered programs. They will also be available via our website and Facebook pages, also listed below.

It is now more than ever a time for unity by all stroke services and for everyone to provide the highest level of support to those who need it most and we aim to provide a lead on that front.

It is our desire to continue to support all of you through this unprecedented and difficult period and welcome you to continue to contact our co-ordinators. We encourage you to reach out to people who have recently been affected by stroke, or their carers, and direct them to the Association for a chat so that we can help in their rehabilitation after they leave clinical care.

Finally, please be aware of the advice that is constantly being circulated in the media by the government and their health advisors as it is now at a most serious stage. Should any of you have concerns about health symptoms or the COVID -19 disease, please contact the government helpline on Phone: 1800 020 080.

If you have serious symptoms such as difficulty breathing, call 000 for urgent medical help .

The priority of my Board is the welfare and safety of all Victorian stroke survivors and carers and I will keep you informed of any adverse changes to the service we deliver to all of you.

Keep well and safe and please stay at home.

Kindest regards,

Colin Scott
