Will2Walk Hero Peter shares his stroke journey and his motivation for Will2Walk 2020.
Will2Walk means more to me than just getting out and walking. It allows me to really challenge myself while celebrating the people and services that have changed my life since I had a stroke.
This year I am walking to help with my recovery and rehab. I’m also very keen to beat my distance last year. I set myself a goal of 10km and didn’t quite make the full distance so I am motivated to make it this year.
I was one of the very first members of the Bendigo Stroke Support Centre, joining after I experienced a stroke whilst undergoing surgery in February 2019.
The Centre is a place to go and meet with other stroke survivors and sit and talk about our shared experiences. Other stroke survivors know where you’ve been and understand the journey you’ve been on. It also gives you an insight about what to expect and a shared understanding.
I encourage everyone to participate in Will2Walk – just have a go to the best of your abilities. The sense of achievement at the end makes it all worth it.
