After having my stroke 25 years ago and not receiving any support for almost 20 years, the Barwon Stroke Support Centre is very special to me, as I no longer feel alone. It’s a place where I can make friends and be included in activities, no matter what my abilities are.
My favourite activities at the Barwon Centre are the all abilities cooking and craft sessions. At these sessions, I can catch up with my friends, as well as to learn new skills or re-learn old ones from post-stroke.
I love making new friends and watching other members improve in their stroke recovery, especially the younger members such as Emily, Kirby and Lauren, who are now getting out and doing things in the local community.
It’s nice to feel and see others comfortable and smiling without feeling threatened, being laughed at or criticised. Everyone is made to feel welcome. I really can’t say anything negative about the Barwon Centre, as it’s a warm, inviting and happy place and I have lots of fun!
